Not so long ago the payment for playing for England WAS playing for England...

It was viewed as the ultimate accolade & privilege to be able to pull on the shirt bearing the 3 lions & represent your country, & to play with passion & pride.

If any player takes the 40k (especially given their exorbitant & obscene club wages) they should hang their head in shame.

Actually - give it to charideeeee.

Other than that they are marked in my book as money-grabbing bastards.

Completely agree! Cover their expenses fair enough. . . but 40K is a joke.
Hot on the heals of my Christmas rant, this is symtomatic of a similar problem.. . . . .. everything is about money.

To be fair to the players. . . they are probably offered the money and foolish not to accept it. . .they could en mass donate it to charity though.

Ultimately blame the FCUKERS at the FA for been weak enough to offer that kind of cash!

the england team have a charity foundation that raised over £15million last season. a substantial part of that raised from the players . but how many of em would play wiyhout the match fee not many i reckon. fckin mercs
