| pc shite again Gordon Brown is to force would-be migrants coming to the UK to pass English tests, in a move which could cut arrivals by 35,000 a year. The Prime Minister will unveil the controversial plans, which apply to skilled workers from outside the EU, at the TUC annual conference in Brighton on Monday. Under the Government's current points scheme, migrant workers from outside the EU are split into three groups - highly skilled, skilled and low-skilled. Of these, only the highly skilled and skilled categories are permitted to seek permanent residence in Britain. Since last December, highly-skilled migrants have had to show proficiency in English as a condition of entry. Mr Brown and Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will announce on Monday that the requirement is to be extended to all those in the skilled category. They will be expected to speak, write and understand English to a standard equivalent to GCSE grade A-C. To prove eligibility they will have to show they have passed an internationally recognised English test or obtained a university degree from a course taught in English. Government sources say that around 35,000 of the 95,000 skilled workers who came to the UK last year would not have passed an English test. Mr Brown and Ms Smith will also announce a review on extending the English language requirement to cover low-skilled workers, even though they are not allowed to apply to settle permanently in the UK. Ms Smith said: "Those who we welcome into the UK to work and settle here need to understand our traditions and feel that they are part of our shared national culture. They need to integrate into our country, learn English and use our language." im fooking sick of this y is it controversial, it aint in ausy or the US ![]() |

| It's tokenism at it's worst by the Labour Party. David Cameron says last week that he's going to toughen up immigration and he gets a few plaudits. So this week Gordon Brown has to come back and say he's gonna toughen up immigration as well. The government know that the man in the street is always complaining about immigrants being unable to speak English so he panders to us by saying that they will need to pass English language tests. The government know this will never work and we know it will never work but for a short while at least it looks like the Labour Party are prepared to take the immigration problem seriously. Are we expected to believe that if an immigrant turns up on our soil and fails to grasp the English language then he will be turned around and sent back from whence he came? Hardly likely when this Government seems powerless to even deport people who advocate the killing of our soldiers and the bombing of our cities. Sadly, the fact is that if you set foot on British soil then to all intents and purposes you are here for good - the chances of you being turfed out are almost nil. Moan over. ![]()

Some mothers will use the money wisely, others will spend it on fags and sky tv! Unfortunately it will be the ones who eat unhealthy food that will waste it! It's crap anyway, It is cheaper to eat fresh healthy food than it is to buy TV dinners and take aways! It always bugs me that the excuse is "we can't afford to eat healthy". Shite of the bull! There is nothing cheaper than veg from the grocers. 500 grams of nice stewing steak about £2.50, some carrots, an onion, some new potatoes and some mushrooms all for about £1.50. Some flour, an egg and water 20p? Steak pie with new potatoes to feed 4 people for under a fiver. Less than the price of 1 takeaway meal or a packet of fags! See what I mean. It's not the money it's education or lack of it. Loads of people who don't know how to cook, can't be bothered to cook and don't care about eating healthy food. Why waste money on them.
