Apophis, Near Earth Asteriod!

Lol ILP's got me on one looking at all things spacey!

Found this anyway, didnt realize we had come so close to a hit in december 2004 by an asteriod called apophis which is 415m wide , its also saying theres a 1 in 45,000 chance we could be hit by Apophis in the year 2036 , yikes, thats pretty small odds in the grand scheme of things.

99942 Apophis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amazing stuff really, would love to work in astronomy

I love looking at the stars (my bedroom is in the loft, lol) and i have always been fascinated by outer space.

I have always thought that I was born too early in time and that I should have been born when we were really out there as I would love to be exploring it

My mum has a really great telescope - and she has her loft converted and the telescopes set up and we have maps of the skies and everything and try and find certain constellations. Its great on a clear night when its really 'still' outside and we can set it up in the garden as me mum gets the whisky bottle out and we get drinking it............only stars i see then are ones above me head,

This week I downloaded Stellarium (Stellarium) and have been pissing around with it all week. Let's you jump to a planet, say Jupiter, and look at our galaxy from that perspective. Then you can jump back to earth.

Also shows the constellations and can overlay constellation art so you can see how someone made up the likes of Draco from a few dots.

Really humbling when you look at the size of it all. I was looking at one star yesterday that is nearly 5,000 light years away

I wanted to work in astronomy too, but Jimmy Saville wouldn't fix it for me to go to an observatory

He ruined my life

......Or maybe held off my geekiness until discovering forums a few years ago
