advice needed asap please

this relates to shooms thread about his nightmare neighbours.
Last night and on a regular basis my next-door neighbour played music from 10-1am. This is on a wednesday night. Now this music was sooo loud. I reckon it was on a par with a club sound system. I got so wound up I hardly sleep. Its really doing me in. I left a polite note for him today to say its too loud please turn it down. The thing is I doubt it will make any difference. I mean if you play music like that on a wednesday night you're not really gonna be concerned about the neighbours being pissed off are you. My girlfriend who slept through most of it is saying lets move cause you need sleep etc. The trouble is. We have a 6 month clause in our contract that is up today or tommorrow. We can give 2 months notice on the flat and move out after 6 months in total. If we miss that deadline we are tied into the place for another 8 months. I can't work this bloke out at all. He's build like brick **** house. Sometimes I see him in very expensive suits on a blackberry but I'm still not sure he works. So he could be really dodgy. But if you were really dodgy would you want to attract that much attention to your house?
I could send some boys round but then that could turn into tit for tat and stress me out even more. FFS I'm sure the stress of having to find somewhere else and moving everything would be pretty crap as well

Do what Stevie W suggested...

Contact local council for noise abatement order - they will write to him formally & give you a pack to complete.

Also if you know who he leases from (if he leases & not owns) then contact the landlord / leasing agency.

Write to him & formally (but politely) inform him that he is disturbing you & ask him to keep the noise to a reasonable level / times.

Here's some links

Good luck Nath - I feel your pain mate It's shit.

Yeah, taste of own medicine required here - whack up the tunes, and go out leaving them on... He'll soon get the message.

Thing is I don't know whether he owns or rents or even what his name is so how do I write a formal letter and even know if he's read it

I think you have done the right thing by leaving him a polite note , see where that gets you first ...

And i certainley would not be worried about the size of him

[ my dad always told me the bigger they are the harder they fall : dont be INTIMADATED by the size of him .... ]

he might surprise you and be okay .... maybe he hasnt realized how loud it really is ..........

thanks for the words of encouragement. Luckily I am pretty nice to everyone and made friends with some "security experts". Who I'm sure could pay him a visit. But thats the last thing I want. Nicely nicely at the mo.

I feel for you Nath as ive been there too. At the end of the day you need to think about you and your mrs welfare (if she lives with you). Moving house is an instant solution... a pain in the arse yes but you then have control back..

my younger brother is having a right nightmare with his loud neighbour like yourself she has been playing music loud until like 6am even on weekdays knowing he has a daughter that needs to get up for school, He has done everything that the law states do, informed the council / police, they have been to her house told her to turn it down numerous times, threatened her with eviction but she still does it, and now it has got to a point where they are doing nothing to rectify the situation, He has had to resort to selling his house and moving away otherwise he will prob flip and chin her and end up getting done for it !
my advice just move away. sorry if not want to hear that, but i can honestly say you will fell better far away from scumbags like him who have no consideration.

The missus has just rang the agents and we can give 2 months notice apparantly from any point from now. Which really cheered me up cause as my dad just pointed out you could move and be next to someone similar although its very unlikely
