Age 18-34 Ladies of OSA I need you!!!

Ok, as 40% of my marks for my family law module I have to complete a gay project, part of which includes obtaining 10 or more completed questionnaires (see below) from women aged 18-34 (my chosen category), my sub-group is going to be women with children, i'm going to write it comparatively so I need both women with and without children.

As I know OSA is blessed with an abundance of wonderfully articulate ladies, I thought here should be my first port of call.

If I don't get ten responses its fine, I can always get off my arse and look elsewhere, if more than ten respond thats fine too as we're allowed to hand in as many questionnaires as we want, just the min is 10.

My work will be based around your responses, and I actually have to hand your responses in as part of my assessment, so I need thoughtful, honest, full answers (to the open questions), and ladies from a variety of social backgrounds.

I will attach the questionnaire to an email to anyone who would be kind enough to help me Just reply to this thread and say yep.

My essay title, which you won't have to concern youreself with really, but in case you wanted to know is...

“Restrictions on mobility should be regarded as one of the burdens of bringing up children and as recognition of the principle that the parental responsibility of natural parents is shared throughout the children’s minority.”

Comment on this statement, with particular reference to the empirical evidence of social attitudes you have obtained regarding this issue. In the light of such attitudes, comment on whether you think that the current approach of the courts towards applications to leave the jurisdiction is well founded.

The questions I need responses to, & the intro, just to show you, are as follows:

FAMILY LAW PROJECT 2007: SHEFFIELD UNIVERSITY AND QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY BELFAST

VIEWS OF MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC

I am a Family Law student, undertaking a project as part of my degree course. The project is about families moving abroad. We are trying to find out whether people’s views are in line with what the current law says. I would be very grateful if you could answer the questions detailed below, giving me reasons as to why you think the way you do. I would like to stress that you are not expected to know any law. What I am interested in is your opinion.

First, please can I ask you some basic information. It would be very helpful if you could answer all the questions, but if you do not wish to answer any of them please leave them blank:

1. Sex: M [ ] F [ ]

2. Age: 18-24 [ ] 25-34 [ ] 35-44 [ ] 45-54 [ ] 55-64 [ ]

65-74 [ ] 75+ [ ]

3. Occupation:....................................... .................................................. .................

4. Current Marital status: Single [ ] Cohabiting [ ] Married [ ]

Civil Partner [ ] Divorced [ ] Separated [ ] Widowed [ ]

5. Do you have any children?: Yes [ ] No [ ]

6. Ethnic group: White [ ] Mixed [ ] Asian or Asian British [ ]

Black or Black British [ ] Chinese or other ethnic group [ ]

Questions:

1. Herman and Wendy married 10 years ago. They have 2 children, Anna and Bernard, who are now aged 8 & 6. After Bernard was born Wendy suffered from a very serious and prolonged period of post-natal depression, such that she spent some months in a psychiatric ward of a hospital. During this time she had visions of killing both herself and the children. In consequence she saw very little of the children, who were looked after by Herman. The strain on both Herman and Wendy of coping with all this meant the marriage foundered and they separated and divorced 4 years ago.

Once Wendy had recovered her health she and Herman agreed that he should continue to be the primary carer of the two children and that Wendy should see the children once per month for the weekend. The parties have stuck to this arrangement. Wendy has also taken the children away for a short holiday on a couple of occasions.

Last year Herman met Marianne, who had come to the UK to study for a postgraduate degree, and 6 months later they married. Marianne’s course is about to come to an end. Marianne is desperately keen to return home to Cape Town, South Africa. She misses her family and very much wants them to get to know and love her new family. She hates the weather in the UK, being used to sunnier climes.

Herman would love to move to South Africa. The company he works for has an office in Cape Town and he has approached and asked for a transfer to that office. The company, who value him highly, would be happy to transfer him out there. The job would mean a promotion, as a vacancy has recently arisen which he could fill. It would mean an enhanced lifestyle for all the family.

The children know who their mother is, but since Marianne came into their family they regard Marianne more as a mother figure and Wendy as a favourite aunt. Bernard is very excited at the prospect of moving to Cape Town. Anna is much less keen, as she loves her school and she really does not wish to leave all her friends behind.

Wendy is very upset at the prospect of the children being taken to South Africa and opposes the move. She understands why the children do not regard her as their mother, but wants to continue to build her relationship with them so that in time she does have a proper parent/child relationship with them. She says that if the children leave the country it is obvious that this cannot happen.

Do you think that Herman should be allowed to take the children to South Africa?

Yes [ ] No [ ] Don’t know [ ]

What is the reason for your answer?
(FULL, LONG RESPONSE NEEDED HERE)

If you answered Yes, what conditions, if any, would you wish to impose on Herman with regard to the children’s contact with Wendy?

2. 2. Joe and Gill lived together for 10 years and have a child, Sam, now aged 7. When Sam was 1 year old they parted. Initially there was a lot of hostility between the two of them and Gill refused to let Joe see Sam other than very occasionally. However, realising that their anger towards each other was harming Sam, both parties have softened; and, although they do not like each other, both make strenuous efforts not to show their dislike in front of Sam, and both behave in a civilised fashion when Sam goes on his weekly Saturday visit to Joe.

Sam enjoys seeing his Dad, although he sometimes wishes he did not visit every weekend as he would like to go and play football with his mates. Sam also enjoys seeing his paternal grandparents, as he says they spoil him.

Gill has always been a very outdoors person, in particular loving hiking in the mountains. She has just been offered an ideal job in Vancouver, Canada, running an art gallery. She feels this is wonderful opportunity both in terms of her work and because it would mean she would be close to the Rockies. Gill believes that Sam, who is a very active, sporty boy, will love the outdoor opportunities open to him in Canada

Joe is completely opposed to Gill taking Sam to Canada. He fears that once she is there, owing to the hostility between the two of them, he will lose all contact with Sam. He thinks that Gill will not make any effort to maintain Sam’s links with his father.

Do you think that Gill should be allowed to take Sam to Canada?

Yes [ ] No [ ] Don’t know [ ]

What is the reason for your answer?
(LONG RESPONSE NEEDED HERE)

If you answered Yes, what conditions, if any, would you wish to impose on Gill with regards to Sam’s contact with Joe?
(LONG RESPONSE)

Any help would be VERY much appreciated
