Cheers for those Shooms, good veiwing.
Sadly we are to lose Fortress Layer Road soon due to the Council building a new 'Community' stadium. While there is no doubt that our club needs the increased attendances to survive i shall miss the terracing a lot. Part of the reason we are where we are in the league is without doubt due to the layout of our ground. People right on top of the pitch and boistrous. Im not looking forward to the sterile enviroment of the new ground one bit and certainly wont be sitting down. You dont sit down at footy, its just not right Also there are no extra saftey benefits at all, if anything more danger in sitting in my opinion.

Aaaah yes the days of winding through the packed terraces in Mosside, the City Chippy, packed on the the kippax with 20,000 others, the smell of strange cigarettes wafting through the air..........."those were the days my friend we took the Stretford End".........etc......

Nice! I remember my first ever footie match was in the Holte End, my brother in law took me when I was seven years old. He had to pick me up every time we looked like scoring (which in those days was a lot more often lol) to stop me getting squashed as everyone surged forward! I've been a Villa fan ever since.

Shooms thats a geat clip mate, accompanied by a fuckin mega track mate and its very co-incidental that you show it as something is going on at Liverpool at the moment which a few other clubs may want to try themselves, ill put a link on below...... but basically what it is about is the education that sky tv is giving our up and coming supporters and how one programne in paticular is ruining the originality of our crowds....

Soccer fucking am..........what a fuckin moronic peice of shit show that is, and for me it is everything that is bad about football....

jesters hats,
oooooo r ya chants,
helen fucking chamberlain .... silly little bint
and worst off all ..... which is leading to people at Anfield at the moment being told to stop or fuck off out of it... that pissing easeh, easeh, easeh chant.....that really is small time, unorginal and could you ever see barca, milan, or real.... no chance......

as for the stand issue..... ive been to most away grounds in this country. a few from off that clip, carlise, swindon and huddersfield , and speaking as someone who was in the leppings lane in 89 and saw first hand what and WHY hillsborough happened, the majority of away ends at footy grounds had to go.... they were small and lacked any escape route in an emergency....

but what i and plenty like me disagree with was the lack of opportunity to introduce safe terracing.... the kop was safe, the stretford end was safe and so was the holte, the north bank, the glawdys street etc and it was wrong that we were forced to destroy the main thing that made our game so great

anyway heres that link RTK

great piece of film and really brings home the nostalgic good Ole days.

I've really lost faith in football these days. There are only a few places left where it still feels like it did even 10 years ago. I still go and watch City and always will, but it just doesn't matter as much anymore. Its not me thats changed its football thats changed me. I can pin some of the reasons to:

Incredulously high ticket prices
Bland characterless Corporate stadiums ie: Wigan / Bolton / City (!!) / Reading / Arsenal etc
The incessant and all devouring greed of footballers / footballers agents
Sky TV and their unbelievably stupid kick off times (City v Watford / Norwich last year) on a Monday night
Over zealous policing (sit down or your thrown out, take your foot of the yellow painted concourse, no swearing)
corporate lunches with desperate ex players swanning round cracking jokes

I really think the bubble is about to burst. The game reeks of scumbags in the mold of Rio Ferdinand (remember rags fans?) Nicholas Anelka, Ashley Cole. Where loyalty means nothing and the love of the game or a club is secondary to how much you earn. There are some exceptions - Paul Scholes, The Chuckle brothers, Giggs, Gerrard, Carragher, The Goat but until the money issue is addressed, in my opinion football will continue to spiral down a dark path of soulless corporate capitalism

........"so this is Christmas".......

Danny m8 you need to come and visit our shack, it may be falling down and ancient but it still has that old school vibe about it. No hot water in visitors changing rooms, players 3 foot away from the fans, loadsa banter and terracing. Also our club refuses to sign any players through/with agents. I love it to bits

p.s. then again if we keep winning you may have to...that would be interesting lol

Hey that would be interesting and well done Colchester if you get there!! 3 points guaranteed against City I can assure you now!

There are a couple in the Premiership who still have the oldskool feel - Sheff Utd, Pompey, West Ham, Everton, Newcastle but these are fading fast. Everton are apparently moving to Kirby? Hammers might be taking the Olympic stadium!! Its a dying breed!

(I might have to go to Colchester if you get promoted and excersise some demons from a previous life, scary place lol!!)

Spot on Danny lad....Fortunately for me being a Preston North End supporter we have just re-developed Deepdale and it is as original as your probably gonna see in these "Designer bowl" days of football ground architecture.

Like yourself i have been too the vast majority of grounds in England,A few in Scotland and a few abroad whilst following "Ingerland"....

There was nothing like the feeling of "going the match" 15/20 years ago and the thought of just seeing your mates stood on the terrace having a craic,a smoke when you wanted and just milling about the terrace in general has killed the passion of the sport....well in England anyway as grounds over on the continent are still the same, and all the stupid PC shit aint affecting them...

We went down to "Sarfend" the other week and had an almighty laff on the terrace, just like the old days,it was a great day out,and were well looking forward to going to Layer Road too,as these type of grounds are dying an all to sad death in my eyes....Funny to say it but i'd love to support a side which was in the bottom 2 divisions now just to have that nostalgia back...
