| Close Calls Close calls........ Just had one on the way home, it was entirely my fault and I feel a right clown to be honest. Im tired, deeply depressed, and its dark and drizzly, just had a nightmare job at work to do where Ive been once again dropped in it, and my whole life crisis was just milling in my mind and I : A) wasnt paying attention to driving, B) might not have actually give a shit deep down, and C) I couldnt cope with what was going on around me on the road cos Im too slow on the uptake sometimes when theres a busy situation and loads of distracting "road furniture" to contend with along with pedestrians to watch out for in the dark, especially watching out for those that insist on wearing black cloth from tip to toe in the evenings around here. I deservedly got a damn good beeping at as I sheepishly drove off up another road after what could have been a very nasty incident indeed, and one which could possibly have written my car off along with me at the same time should the other guy have been speeding and whaked me side on. Luckily nothing happened, but it makes me realise that sometimes Im quite dangerous on the roads when Im depressed or thinking about too many things. Anyone else have days like that? How many close shaves (on the road lol) have you lot had? I wil be glad when its weekend, fuck me. . I need a holiday too. Ive still got 22 days left of my allocated 26 days this year.Sirius |

| I've had one seriously close shave a couple of years back. Heading down the motorway and not really paying much attention. I was a bit shocked to see how fast I was approching the cars in front, when it suddenly dawned on me that all the cars in front were in fact stationary. I stamped on the break and at the same time looked in the rear view mirror to see an artic pretty close behind, and the hole cab lurched forward has he slammed on too. I quickly realised that there was no way I was going to avoid the stationary car in front, and there was absolutley no f*ckin wat that the 40 foot truck behind me was gonna stop either. So, with a pure reflex reaction I just yanked the wheel and steered into the middle lane, and at the same time the truck behind swerved the other way onto the hard shoulder. Pretty fucking lucky there was nobody along side me, otherwise there would have been an almighty mess off metal and flesh all over the road. Yeah, that was a close call! ![]()

| Bad shit innit I remember in about 2003 i was joining the m56 from the slip road & it was pissing it down with rain, there was a truck in my way so i spead up to try & pull in front of him, he was going to fast & there was no chance i could do it. By this time i had ran out of slip road, so i veered onto the hard shoulder, only to be met by a stationary vehicle with a flat tyre. I hit the breaks so hard my foot almost broke . The car skidded for ages before coming to a stop metres away from the car.I had to stop & smoke a full deck of fags before returning on my journey It was horrible. |

| Crikey Tim, that sounds mad. Northern Star, I suppose we do all have them eh. The thing is, I wasnt really shaken by it, and thats probably the most worrying thing cos I should be. I just called myself a stupid tosser (well, a bit harsher than that) and slinked off homeward bound somewhat even more dangerous minded as all I could think about was all the stuff I was previously thinking about plus the close call! Ah well, it all ended well. I need a few bottles of : ![]() lol Sirius |

| I had a close call recently. I cycle more miles per year than I drive. I'm not a cycling or green activist - just enjoy it. November the first, a bright chilly morning with no wind, so I head out at 6:30 for a 40 mile training ride. Been gone about 26 miles, and I'm on a roundabout when I see a car coming at me from the left... and he t-bones me fair and square up into the air... landing on my head (face abrasions and an ear lobe laceration). The driver admitted accelerating onto the roundabout to avoid the van behind me, and didn't see me. I was out cold for sometime... I lost a further 20 minutes due to short term amnesia which is very wierd, and had a thumb at right angles to the rest of my hand (that smarts a bit, and is to be strapped for another 3 weeks yet). Thing is... it could have been a whole lot worserer. That afternoon, when I got back from hospital, I was watching my son play when it suddenly dawned on me how close he had come to being without a dad. And was I choked? Like nothing before! It dawned on me how very quickly lives can be changed. I make sure my son gets and extra hug each day and I am upping my life cover - just in case.

| I've had one myself while driving a van with a few mates in dicking about. It really shakes you up for a bit but I think it makes you a better driver at the end of the day The most important thing is that you're ok, you've got another chance and you're a little bit wiser ![]()

| had a extremly close near miss a few month ago while out at work , was in the truck at work ( 7.5 ton ) and doin a steady 70 mph down the middle lane of the M1 at 9.30am in the morning in between junc 44 / 45 ( just a little while after the morning rush had died down ) . . . .and we must have run over something on the motorway which flicked up and cut the airline to the brakes which resulted in ALL the back brakes locking on , sending the back end in a swerve across all three lanes , we then ended up facing sideways down the motorway sliding at 70mph ( not a nice thing in a 7.5 ton vehicle ) . . luckly enough my driver kept his cool and manged to get the back end back in and we slid for 200 yards coming to a stop across two lanes . . . shutting the motorway down for an hour with talibacks for over 7 miles . .lol can honestly say ive never been as scared in my life at that point . .lol . . was shaking for hours after and also lucky enough the traffic police were there within 4 mins as they was on the other side of the motorway dcomin down and saw the whole thing , they said to us we were prolly the luckyest ppl on the motorway that day , as all they saw was us sliding down the motorway sideways in a cloud of tyre smoke , with the back end just missing the cars in both lanes at the side of us , had the back end hit something , there would have deffo been a MAJOR motorway pile up . . ( we were on a bridge as well at the time so could have been very very nasty spec had it been half an hour earlier when the motorway would have been at its busiest . . ) . . . guys that picked us truck up also said the chance of summat flicking up and cutting the one pipe that lead to the brakes as theres loads all togther under neath , was so slim that they had never seen it happen before . . lol someone was deffo watching over me that day ![]() |
