Good - Family / Friends.

Bad (for me) - Musically and beyond, the UK used to have an identity (from Punk to Acid to Jungle etc) and be at the forefront of it all with its reliable creativity but now there are no youth movements or new direction. Nothing is fresh anymore as people just seem to be content with the next highstreet boyband or copycat indie group and dodgy dance. Something radically different needs to show up creating a voice against the norm but I just cant see that happening as we are constantly fed on unadventurous TV, Radio, Cinema. There is the odd spark of genius and new things happen but nothing which keep a slight interest before it gets watered down for the masses and spunked by the media

Sarah, as I said I do not know the details of your dad's case and having read what you say below, there is actually a case that he should have had the operation earlier. I was just making the point that it is all not as black and white as some people (and not neccesarily you) make out.

He had all the tests, magic eye and all that just to be told you will need a new kneecap but youre going to have to wait until youre at least 65. Over the years his pain became unbearable to the point where he had to take early retirement. He was still relatively young when the accident happened, but the injury made him seem older cos he couldnt walk properly. Like I said earlier he then damaged his hip so badly that it needed replacing cos he was putting all his weight on the one side of his body to ease the pain

He needed to be active when it first happened cos he was a single parent!

Over the years I watched him get more and more depressed with it and I felt completely useless

Anyway without going into anymore detail, none of us agreed that he should have had to go through all those years of pain I think every case should be judged differently and I think the NHS were just doing everything by their book.

This has gone completely off topic lol, so I'll end it there!
Knowing you, I am sure that you interpretted as such, but just so that other people do not think I was having a dig at you.

I've been in Florida for 6 yrs now, all my mates from England think I'm the luckiest man alive, however:

1.The weather in summer isn't too good - far too humid, rains almost everyday not to mention the occasional hurricane every few yrs.

2. A few decent clubs in Miami (a little pretentious sometimes though) but elsewhere is touristy frat spring break hell (Aqua-Barbie girl anyone?)

3. Politics/Laws are F***ed up

4. No NHS means having to pay $200 every time you visit the doc/dentist

5. I've seen/met some people here who make chavs seem very respectable/intelligent in comparison

It's my home now, and to be honest I think the pro's outweigh the cons (i.e. winter weather, crime isn't as bad in Miami as many parts of the UK)
If I could turn back time and go back to 1989-1993 UK, I'd probably trade that for Florida 2006

The best things about the UK are civilization & hygene. The fact we've outlawed all barbaric practices and we are alot safer from general harm than those in alot of other countries, and the standard of living is higher than that in most other countries. Just little things like being able to drink the water make a huge difference.

The UK's biggest downfall has got to be the weather. Although saying that, we don't have to worry about tornado's or flash floods or any extreme weather conditions, other than being cold most of the time. And we don't have earth quakes/volcano erruptions etc, its really a good place to live overall.

What barbaric places would they happen to be then (lol).....the same cultures and mindsets thats been increasingly setting up stall here by any chance?.....

The weather, (as you have nicely done a uturn hahaha) is a good thing. We have plently(ish) amounts of water, greenery, we arent geographically prone to earthquakes etc, volcano eruptions and general cruel fates that mother nature throws at other places in the world. We get sunsine, rain, snow for variety, and never seem to be on the path of hurricanes etc.
Its an Island, and we have (previously had!) a natural moat defense system thats kept invaders out (well, up until the end of the war anyway), and we have been unashamed in hour history to adopt other things from elsewhere and go on to totally surpass them, but unfortunately those days have gone and rather than import fine china creation knowledge by exploring, our modern method seems to be the equivalent of importing half the populous of other countries to hopefully aquire 'knowledge' at the expense of our own destiny!!!

Whats bad, from our own team, is the "dont give a fuck" attitude people have now, and no sense of civic or national pride, value for our country or value for other peoples property, no respect for the law (which is now a complete farce anyway), packed with drug addicts and drug users too stupified and doped out thier minds to take an interest in thier country. Another bad thing is how we have so many non governmental, unelected bodies with agenda's forming the politics of this country over the last 30-40 years, and a government system thats far from democratic (two trick pony of the same breed) and all are far from delivering the wishes of the people (ID cards, Closing Hospitals, Faith Schools, Scool Reform bills, Millenuim Dome, the Olympics, Religious hatred bills, the war, etc etc which were all vastly unpopular with over 70% of the public yet they go and do it all anyway and stick two fingers up at the voters who marched en masse and protested about all of them). Generally a country thats totally gone Looney Tunes on loopy juice.

Privatisation of our national assets, such as water and electric, gas, transport etc was a huge mistake, and shows nothing to be proud of. Our roads are terrible considering the past state they were in and other countries like Germany where they work through the day and night to sort out roadworks etc....

Theres a hell of a lot to moan about, but a hell of a lot to be thankfull for, and thats one of the reasons I love this country and wish to preserve it and not let it rot away any further.

The worst thing about living in this country, is the awful feeling that youre trapped in a huge Island sized mental asylum, and the patients are running the systems, and infact youre the only real sane one left in the mad house. lol.

Sirius.
