... up to ten grand to spend on a car, and the only stipulations are that it needs to be new/nearly new (enough to be under warranty) , and that it needs to be a reasoanbly decent size (enough to get baby seats in the back ok / buggys in the boot), what would you go for?

gotta be an audi.... had an a3 myself and it was without doubt the best car i have ever driven, never looked after it though and blew the head gasket.......... what a tit i am......... t.c you wont go wrong with a a3 or an a4 and you will get a quality one on a 01 or 02 plate with about 60,000 miles on it for that kind of wonga

Can pick up a 02/03 VW Passat for £7-7.5k, or a 04/05 for around the £9k mark.

Had one of these for 18months, and it's the nicest drive I've ever encountered. If I had £10k to spend on a car, wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these.

I have been well happy with my astra that set me back 7k a year ago. If i had had a bit more to spend i would have gone for a vw golf though. Had the pleasure of driving a tdi 150psi version for a few month and it was the best car i have driven by far. Seemed really solid and you can tell the difference between mine and that.

Might go for VW when i part ex this in but it wont be for a while yet.
