Thanks you lot....

Well Sue its the same for me with my Nan... I bought it her for company about 4 years ago now...

Its a dead heathly Budgie apart from its feet.... I kid you not... They are all twisted and deformed and bless its little beak it keeps falling off its perch...

Ive lowerd it right down to the bottom so it dosnt have as far to fall but I can see its really upsetting my nan so was wondering if anybody can suggest anything apart from either strapping it down to its perch or lobbing its feet off before anybody suggests it!

Err I know this is going to sound a bit but its most probably chewing them! We had a budgie when we were kids and it had this problem. It can be a sign of stress or it doesnt like its food. Not to make matters worse, but if I remember rightly we were told to let it out of its cage every so often, but unfortunately it escaped one day personally I think it wanted to tho

Thanks Sweet!

Hmmm that sounds quite plausable, due to the fact that its never really been let out of it's cage because my nan is pretty badly disabled you see and if it came out of its cage she couldnt and would never be able to get it back in...

Its spoiled rotten with its food as you can imangine, as old folks do with their pets.. better fed than me that bird and as for stress! Ha!

But any suggestions on fixing it or is it just fcuked?

I'd take it to the vets and get their opinion. Me and Cookie bought two parrots last Sunday and they love bein out of the cage like, but not all birds do, it might scare the bugger silly when it's not used to being out of the cage like - just a thought.

Hope you get it sorted like

Err I think youve answered your own question there its not fucked, but you might have to let it go to an avery or something, otherwise its not fair on the bird. Imagine being cooped up in a really small cage for 4 years of your life. Id tell you something, Id be chewing more than my feet off

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

I dont really agree with birds in cages, but I understand that some wouldnt survive in the wild.

ok been doing a bit of research for you on your deformed budgie feet. IF the budgie was not born like this (which can happen a lot) then its most probobly down to its diet. There is a great long list of stuff that your not suppsed to feed to a budgie.

I take it the bird is in no way distressed by his condition?

You can also check his feet underneath for signs of sore and cuts - injuries that he may have done on on his cage. This can cause feet problems as the constants scratting about on the bottom of his cage can let in infections and not being able to heal the feet can deform and swell up.

If in doubt take him to the vet

Budgerigars Budgies & Keeping Budgies - Budgerigar Breeders'Archive

this site has lots of budgie info on it.

I dont doubt for one second that its treated with loads of care and love its just not their natural habitat being stuck in a cage and tbh 4 years is a long time for a budgie, Im impressed. But I think with the problem you have its trying to tell you its not happy. God I sound like Dr frigging Doolittle lol!! Can you not get it a bigger cage and some new things for it to play with or chew? Has it constantly got dried cuttlefish in its cage?

being egg bound can kill the nerves off in a leg and foot and cause the claw to fold in so it looks deformed and the bird cant walk on it propor ? have you checked to see if its egg bound ?

>> Egg binding can be caused by a few different reasons. General unfitness can cause it. If a bird is unfit, overweight, and doesn't get enough exercise, the muscles may not be strong enough to expel the egg. This is common in birds that are fed solely a seed-based diet, in birds who are never allowed to exercise by being kept in their cage all day, or in birds that are clipped and cannot fly (though clipping is recommended for safety).<<

now im not sure if a bird can just lay a egg unfertilised (so to speak) it just means it wont ever hatch and im sure my nans canary sometimes laid a false egg.

awwwwwww bless the poor little feathery dude
