| Controversial Opinion, I know... Don't get me wrong, I think this web site is a really helpful, great place and I find it really useful for helping me locate samples I want to use in dance music I'm making currently. But I do think it's a bit sad in a way, sort of a sentimental/rose coloured view on yesteryear. I think music dance music has moved on a lot since the days of piano tunes, (I did love them and still listen to them occasionally, even though some of them sound terribly dated now and badly made!, not all of them , but some) There is loads of great dance music being made now that is diverse and interesting, so why just concentrate on old skool piano tunes? I'm not critisising people here, but its just a bit like "eeh when I were a lad it were better et etc" When infact there is tons of good music out there being made right now. I suppose it's different and you are in your early 20's and dj'ing this stuff cos that sounds like a bit of a laugh once a month or whatever, but I do feel guilty being in my early 30's looking back to another era when I used to rave! Sorry to ramble, but I'm just being honest

| i agree yeah but it is my personal choice to play the old stuff happy memories for me - i like to reminisce - i used to listen to everythin - i ave extensive tape range - 1200 at last count ranging from 88 - 2001 from boy george to sasha - but my personal fav is when the dj used to experiment aka sasha daz willot , nipper and mix 3 4 diff styles at once ya dont get that nowadays - that why im into oldskool when nowadays would ya hear ben e kking into a piano scratched into a techno then - ya dont - i do like some of the new skool at the moment i have to thank alien 8 for that and ste h they showed me the stlyes but this otyher stuff im not into -trance nah no thanks just think of commerciality - although i can listen to digweed, seaman, and sasha , n old skool m8 rennaissance regular Nigel Dawson , i like breaks stuff dj shadow - pychonauts n stuff like that cause they mix plenty of diff styles - norman cook can be ok when he plays a true underground set i h8 commerciality - and that what is gonna kill this oldskool scene . i just hope goodtimes dont get a sponsor - advertise nationally cause they dont need it - its got an original vibe thats how it needs to stay alan ![]()

| i'm not a dj and i don't collect vinyl...i haven't got anything to play it on anyway but i do love the piano choons more than anything else that was around at the time, i don't know why i think it's cos i had loads of good times then and i think some of the harder stuff that was being played was a bit fast and all sounded the same...but thats my opinion i just love the way some of the piano tunes can almost put u back into a club having a stormin nite with y' mates and also there were the people and all the atmosphere...not as many idiots as there r now. i know i know...it all comes down to memories a bit for me but if that's wot keeps them alive then that's good for me. there is some good stuff out nowadays i think, and i do listen to a lot of different music aswell but i'll never stop listenin' to the tunes i really love. i don't really think it's a sad view of yesteryear...i think it's a really great thing that a lot of likeminded people come here have a chat about stuff, were they went, the clubs that r closed, bowlers etc...then all end up meetin' up and doin it all over again, also not every1 here is into old skool and not all into piano tunes...for me it's all about having a good time listening to some good tunes meeting new people some1 please congratulate me on my longest post ever over and out jayne x |

| Mate - there are tons of sites out there that are dedicated to 'new' dance music and fair play to them.... for me personally I spent the bestdays of my life off me tits dancing to house tunes between 89 & 92 - nothing since has compared to this... When I first started getting into the net & was looking for what seemed like an eon for a site dedicated to my kind of 'old skool'....everything else termed OS was more hardcore than piano.... so when I came across this site a year or so ago I was running round me room grinning like a loon....and in my opinion it's a combination of like-minded people on here plus the music and memories shared that make this site what it is - & it has become really special to me. Maybe we do look thru rose-tinted glasses at the old times - but you gotta admit they were bloody good times & bloody good music - without the tunes & people from back in the day there would be no house scene or music today. How many times have you listened to a modern tune & knew where that b-line came from or where that synth stab was used before ? It is natural for music to evolve and for new scenes to be created - but I think that the recent resurgence of interest in OS music is indicative of exactly how enduring and good our music is.... House is a feeling & if you don't feel it it can't be house.

| I'll go with Shooms. Of course dance music has moved on since the early days and I’m fairly sure everyone who comes on this site appreciates this. This site is for people who appreciate the older tunes. Peolple on this site were either there in the day or have had chance to listen to the older stuff and think it has something over the new tunes. Perhaps this isn’t the music itself but the “vibe” that goes with it. Regardless of the music, there’s no way you can say that the scene today is the same as the scene in 90-91 for instance. Back then it was still, more or less, exclusively underground. There was a feeling of something new going on. Plus it was pretty much unadulterated hedonism. You just don't get that these days - it happens to a certain extent at the large outdoor events - but these are big corporate events - which simply isn't what the scene was founded on. |

| UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING MATE BUT IT'S NOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH PIANO'S FOR ME, ITS THE WHOLE STYLE. IF YOU TOOK JUNGLE, TECHNO, HARD HOUSE , TRANCE, HAPPY HOUSE/HARDCORE, UK GARAGE AND PUT THEM ALL TOGETHER THE RESULT WOULD BE OLD SKOOL. OLD SKOOL BECAME ALL THE THINGS LISTED ABOVE. I ALSO LOVE ALL THE MUSIC ABOVE TOO AND MY RECORD BOX HAS GOT FAR MORE TRANCE/ FUNKY HOUSE THAN OLD SKOOL, BUT THERE'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT IT WHICH GIVES YOU THAT LITTLE BUZZ, PERHAPS IT'S REMENISENT BUT ALSO IN A WAY,THE WAY SOME OF TODAYS SCENE IS GOING ITS MAKING ME BUY/LISTEN TOO MORE OLD STUFF. YOUR RIGHT SOME OF IT SOUNDS SHIT, BUT GO TO YOUR LOCAL HMV AND YOU CAN SEE ANY TOM, DICK OR HARRY CAN SPEND A GRAND ON A PC AND KNOCK A TUNE OUT. EVEN WHITE LABELS ARE GOING COMMERCIAL!!! WHAT THE FUCKS GOING ON THERE????? THEY ARENT EVEN LEGAL!?? IM ONLY 23(24 TOMORROW!) BUT IF YOU READ O.S.A VIRGIN SAYS HELLO IN THE CHILLOUT ROOM, YOU WILL SEE I GREW UP WANTING TO BE PART OF IT BUT MY MUM AND DAD HAD THAT ALL IMPORTANT SHAG A COUPLE OF YEARS TOO LATE. ANYWAY IM BLABBING AGAIN TAKE CARE BEN "JAMMIN" EDWARDS ![]() |

| I find it odd that people say its not the same nowadays, what that really means is it is the same but your'e just older. I'm sure kids who are partying now, will say in 10 years time, "there was no time like 99-02?" As for house music I Love it, I also loved piano toons at the time, but most of them werent really house music, tunes like Joy and Joyce, double Dee, It was more gay disco music really than house. I just think you have to put the whole thing into perspective

| TO BE QUIET HONEST MATE I DONT THINK KIDS WILL SAY 99-02 WAS GREAT BUT THEN AGAIN ILL NEVER KNOW. ALL I KNOW IS JUST OVER 10 YRS AGO A SCENE STARTED WHICH EVERY POLICEMAN, GOVERNMENT OFFICER, PAPARRAZZI HATED AND WANTED TO STAY UNDERGOUND. THAT MEANT YOU ONLY HAD PEOPLE WHO WERE INTO THE MUSIC GOING TO THESE RAVES. EVERYONE WAS THERE FOR THE SAME REASON. NOW I CAN GO TO MY LOCAL ZANZIBAR/RITZY'S AND LISTEN TO DANCE MUSIC, WHICH IS GOOD IN A WAY, BUT IT MEANS IM GONNA HAVE TO 1. PUT UP WITH PISSED UP TWATS STARING AT ME. 2. DODGE THE FIGHTING ON THE WAY OUT. 3. LISTEN TO "DANCING DAVE" ON THE DECKS SAYING SHIT LIKE *WHISPERING OVER THE MIC* "I'LL LET U INTO A SECRET, THE DJ'S OFF HIS HEAD!!" OOOOOHH WOT A HERO. I SUPPOSE WE COULD GO ON ALL DAY ABOUT THIS BUT MY FINGERS ARE HURTING SO I'LL LEAVE IT!! BEN |

| i dont think it is the same nowadays and honestly mean it!!! half of the night was the music which was fantastic and the other half was the people and atmosphere!!! there just isn't the same atmosphere now, sometimes wen u got out there is people trying to cause trouble, which in my opinion ruins a nite...no matter how good the music is if the feeling isn't right then it can be ruined i dont think anything stays the same and that y it was so special all them years ago...i dont think we'll ever get it back but it's really good trying...as for the kids now then i they will be right when they say "it's not the same" in 10 years time...think about it everything changes, nothing stays the same...if it did we wouldn't be here now chatting on this site change is a good thing i think!! jayne x |
