had glimpses of genius but not enough... to be fair there wasn't alot of options for him as a lone striker & was always surrounded by the cheating dago bastards

By the same reckoning, did Lampard live up to expectations?

Or Ronaldinho for that matter?

England were relying on an 20 year old, who wasn't 100% fit, to play upfront on his own and take the team to a final of a competition that we haven't won for 40 years now......

Yeah, he probably didn't live up to the hype, but then quite a few other, more experienced players didn't either......

i think Rooney did fantastically well all things considered. His lift for the team in the trinidad team was clear for all to see, he ran his arse of every game, and i think was harshly treated for the red card. He was severely lacking in support from the midfield, and any fool with a hole in their arse, can see wayne rooney is wasted in this position. Ultimately its FA's fault for not sacking Sven after the newspaper incident. Why on earth continue with someone who clearly doesnt give a monkeys!!! Next its Svens fault for picking a shit selection of players... why the hell wasnt Jermaine Defoe included, a natural finisher, quick and powerful, plus much more experienced than Theo Walcott. Part of me suspects a certain arsenhole vice chairman who also happens to be influential within the FA or some sort of silly plot to take some of the focus off Rooney.. but regardless, there should have been at least one other striker included, given the fitness doubts of Rooney and Owen, the unproven Crouchy laa, and a 17 year old who cant even get in his clubs first team
lampard was possibly the worst of ingerlands players IMO, he was non existant!! he couldnt hit a barn door from 30 yards, his passing was shit and one of the best things that this world cup has achieved is to show the fat cnut up for being the most over rated footballer in the premiership.
Also highlights how much work makalele and essien do for him, the lazy fat tosser. He should have been dropped in order to play Hargreaves who did really well despite a shaky start and Gerrard in midfield, and play 442 with Crouch starting. Why play 5 in midfield when Rooney tracks back that much his practically in midfield anyway

I think I should be the next england manager lol imo Mclaren is part of Svens team and hes gone, so Mclaren should have too! Its just a kop out way of saving money, after SGE kindly rinsed them of 25 million.

I dont think Rooney plays 4-5-1 and man u so what chance did he have. I noticed that England played there best when he got sent off, this was due to us having to play a 4-4-1 so if Sven had played 4-4-2 like England always have played we may have faired better. Was sick to the back teeth of this shitty long ball hoof it up to Rooney all the time.

If Mclaren sticks with this crappy style then we wont get into the euros int 2008.

IMO anyway...........

The FA should have waited until the end of the World Cup and gone for Scolari.

They should all sack themselves at Soho Square for the good of English football.

Nah... Rooney was gash... not his fault like... no time to come back from injury, and played up front on his own.
Regardless of whether he's suited to the lone striker role, when he's got nobody alongside him, it's too easy for teams to mark him oot the game, which is what happened.

Lampard had a shocker... no idea why...

Walcott? why, exactly?

No Defoe or Bent? unforgiveable... Sure ly we coulda sacrificed Jenas (seeing as he was never gonna play) & stuck one of em on the bus... just to be on t'safeside, like...

Lamps/Gerrard being second sriker from midfield was never gonna work... stoopid plan...

Hargreaves... I take it all back. I was wrong. He ran his bollocks off & looked a class act against Portugal. He was running in on goal when nobody else could be arsed. Hats off to the boy.

Even Crouch showed some good touches, but I still maintain he's not a natural finisher... it was a goalscorer we needed, not someone who'd dink the odd defender in the centre circle bringing the ball out... not his job... he missed too many chances IMHO...

Good luck to Steve McLaren... he's gonna need it...
