There's a book about Buddhism and science knocking about, I'll have a rootle around for you. An awful lot of what of what is explained in the old texts is proving to be correct scientifically.

Like you Lozzie I find my scientific logical mind needs to quantify and qualify what the whacked out religious types say. Northern Minx teases me about this all the time, cos she'll come out with something whacky, and I'll make her explain the logic to it (which makes her laugh and drives her mad at the same time!!) I think this is healthy, stops you ending up manipulated or in a cult. Having said that, its worth remembering what Albert Einstein said on this:

"The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing knowledge."

and

"Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere."

and

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand."

and

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited.
Imagination encircles the world."

God love ya Albert!

You'd be interested in anything on 'prana' (indian), 'chi' or 'qi' (chinese) or 'ki' Japanese Lozzie. I can't recommend a single book unfortunately, my understanding of it has come from all sorts of bits and pieces, martial arts/healing/Zen, tao, and all sorts of other stuff. Go and see Northern Minx for a reiki some time as a treat, she'll talk your ear off about it!

Lol. I'm a bit of a dark horse myself. Funnily enough I'm reading a book about Zen and the Tao at the minute, they are very closely linked, arguably the same thing. I want to read a lot more about it. Did you get hold of the Barefoot Doctors' books?

My best friend in Japan was a Zen priest (who loved a few drinks) and I spent a bit of time in monastery on a retreat( First time I've come clean on here about that, there's my street cred gone!). I'm convinced that House music is a spiritual thing, which I guess is why I ended up on here!

If you've got any books you'd really recommend I'd love to hear about them.

Just found this article, not bad

The Te of piglet is good too!

The more you read about the Tao, the more you start seeing it in everything..... Not bad for 2500 years old.

I don't think Schrödinger's cat is a good example to look at because it was an example of how incomplete our knowledge of quantum mechanics is when moving from sub-atomic systems to larger systems. Its a fine example of how much we dont understand.

"Schrödinger's cat is neither alive nor dead when the box is opened, and is, in fact, not there. The cat simply became bored with the experiment and wandered off. They should have used a rat. A rat obediently stays put until the cat shows up." - Douglas Adams

"Schrödinger's cat has three possible states: Alive, Dead and Bloody Furious" - Terry Pratchett

A good example of Schrödinger's cat in practice is the double slit experiement which sends photons through 2 slits onto a background, it has been dubbed the "most beautiful experiment". The results of the experiment is that you would expect the photon to go via the left or right slit but instead the photon goes through both slits at the same time, in other words, its exists at two places at the same time ?!?!! Its a good experiment that potentially highlights the non-linear nature of the universe.

One possible explanation of this, is that an electron, on its way from point A to point B, can bump into a photon. This not only sends it backwards in space but also in time. It then bumps into another photon, which sends it forward in time again, but in a different direction in space. In this way, it can be in two places at once. This is the basis for quantum electrodynamics and is one of the current theories.

I think the whole superstring and M-theory stuff is amazing and it has that feel of eastern belief systems about it with all things being connected and not individual.

Just my thoughts like,
f.

f.

I agree, part of one big whole thing. That just "is". I agree. We and the rest of creation are all part of this interlinking tappestry, that has the same tiny molecules that flow through everything...minute balls of energy. They say there is one for everything, light, gravity even!! Just one little thing that explains it all and just floats through you like you weren't there. they say that everything is made up of 90% space...so.

I also beleive that travelling "though" space at any great speed is a silly idea...we'll never get anywhere. One day, we will learn how to manipulate space (like we did with fire all those years ago)...and we will just be able to cut it open...like a big curtain, and plonk ourselves wherever we choose in an instant! Better than a car any day of the week. "Just nipping to Pluto to get some frozen mince majory!"

thanks f for this relaly interesting explanation...

I love to learn about these things, and even if it's so complicated in itself, it ehlps us understand how humble man should be...

Everything is linked into infinitely intricate ways, a flap of a butterfly's wing in here can generate a storm in Australia, and the grandfather's theory of time-travelling is also an example.
whatever you would do travelling back in the past (even just the simple fact of being there) could geopartise our future and anihilate us...

I don't think you could go back in time ever! There is only now...the absolute second ur sat in. Thats the only reality there is...the past is just a thought you have in ur head NOW.
Maybe infinity is only the now? and isnt a really long thing we all think???its just a moment???? Soz, thats just shredded my noodle aswell! woohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!:confused :
