| I think this 24 hour license thing is the biggest load of out-of-proportion bollocks ever. I'm really keen to see just how many landlords are going to keep their pubs open for 24 hours a day, because it's just not practical. A couple of extra hours, yeah great stuff, but 24 hours? No way. Think about it seriously. Your average landlord probably gets up at about 8ish. Sees to deliverys from the brewery, meat man, fish man, veg man. Might have to have a trip to the cash & carry. Does all the other stuff that needs doing before opening the doors at 12 noon. Then at about 11.20pm he chucks everyone out has a bit of a clean up - ashtrays, glasses etc etc. Probs gets all that done by midnight at the latest. Bed time? Nope. He still has to Z the tills and count his cash and credit card reciepts and make sure everything balances. So he might get to bed about 1 or 2am. That's a pretty long and stressfull day, that has to be done EVERY day, for 7 days a week. So who's gonna run his pub for 24 hours a day? That means more staff, more electricity, more light bulbs, more bog-roll, more everything that costs him money. And is there really going to be enough people who want to pop down the pub for a pint at 3am to make it cost effective? I think not. Then you'll loose the whole "last orders rush" where you can take more money in the last ten minutes than you've took in the last hour. It's unbelieveable how much people spend at last orders, and even more unbelieveable how much people leave because they thought they could drink 5 pints in 20 minutes... ![]()

| I don't think all pubs will apply for it and those that do won't do it every week..but I think its a great idea so that letting out times will be staggered and if you do fancy a few more bevvys asfter 2am youu've got more choices than dial-a- crate In Liverpool there is a couple of the bars that have said they will be doin afterpartys for venues like The Masque and the Carling Academy. And there is a couple of the cheesy bars on Mathew Street that have got the lisense aswell. I go to an after hours club evey week and only drink water from 2 onwards anyway. ![]()

I know...wtf is going on in Leeds? You ring dial-a crate in Liverpool and at least get the option of nice lager That stuff was dirty..but I still went to work on that crate..and took a carry out with me back to Vee and Lozzies ![]()

| think the whole idea of this is aimed at the town centre pubs which 9 out of 10 of them don't open till the evening anyways. So the extended hours will spread out the crowd within certain pubs hopefully curbing trouble. Your more local pubs as what ILP decribes i think will prob continue to trade as they have done all along with maybe the exception of a few money grabbers. Who cares anyway about the pubs, we can now buy booze from tesco at 6:30 in the morning. Now that is what the country has been missing. |

| The police service said its a bad idea. The ambulance crews say its a bad idea. The hospitals and medical staff say its a bad idea. Rape victim support groups say its a bad idea. A nation already a few TRILLION pounds 'on the card' now able to piss more of thier wage down the porcelian and rack up more debt. The majority of non- total pissheads say its possibly a bad idea. Most ministers say its a bad idea.........and we get it anyway. Gambling. Almost everybody says its a bad idea, huge opposition yet the government do it anyway. Id Cards. A bad idea, agreed from the man on the street to the head of MI5, huge opposition. Going to be done anyway. Addition of Turkey to the EU. Done on our behalf without our consent, despite a whole raft of people against it. It gets pushed anyway, not even a mither or whiff of hearing other than thier push, like it was almost enforced. etc etc Do you see the pattern emerging here. Quote:
Who's going to work in them and run them at silly o clock in the morning till the day shift?........well, its not that hard to work out ILP mate. Big chains, even small chains......cheaper wages, people who will put up with the shite most of us allegedly wont...."service industry jobs"....come on, are you feeling it yet bud?.... Roll out the barrel, roll out the barrel of fun......... Sirius. |
