I did a piece on footy aggro for my a-level psychology. It is amazing when you un-fold what actually makes usual mild (ish) mannered indiiduals behave in such a way, 'mass hysetria' is the term given if my memory is right.

Researching this essay made me so scared of football that i have never been to a match- yet a few months back i went near Bolton Stadium a few mins before a match started. I have to say i found the electricity in the air to be fascinating, i could almost taste the anticipation. Now i am more curious as opposed to scared, and hopefully i will go to a match soon to balance my opinions out a little.

As daft as it sounds you cant beat a bit of football agro... providing its between willing participants & no innocent parties are nearby... (old bill are fair game though)...

yes its neanderthal behaviour, yes it shouldnt happen in an educated & modern society but what a buzz you get from the buildup & if one time outta ten it actually goes to conclusion (9/10 its normally buildup & nowt) then its 5 minutes of madness...

actually on balance & thorugh my experiences I'd prefer to have a go @ the old bill than any rivals (even birmingham city ) - police are absolute tossers looking for it from the word go & dont care who they harrass... ID tags removed, balacalava scarves up to their noses, helmets on, batons drawn & raised & dogs used.... wankers...

Some people go to football just for the trouble though dont they, that I cant understand . I have been to see a few matches and nothing has ever happened. If it did I think it would put me off going again.

If you went to matches regularly in the 80's you could'nt help not seeing the trouble. Even at little old Nothampton, I remember getting a clip from me uncle because I was cheering the lads on as they streamed across the pitch at Brighton. Teenagers eh!!

Today's sanitised football is a completly dfferent ball game, the media sponsored "casual resurgence" these days is down to the fact that there hasn't been a youf cult/movement since Acid House. It's just trying to relive the past.

Back to Thorntons book, I believe it was originally meant to be a Photo/coffee table page turner, but didn't end up like that. Although, from what I know that's stil in the pipeline.
