One thing I admit to being scared of.....wasps

Never been stung and never want to. Back to the the Euro Wasp thing...I saw one of these about 5-6 years ago and it was HUGE and I mean HUGE.

It must have been as long as my thumb (and I'm a world record holder for longest thumb).

Anyway...its just lying there and a m8 goes to kill it. It take of like a Harrier Jump Jet and starts flying round the room. Now almost in a state of hysteria, I think I run of and hide. 12 whack later and its a gonner.

Safe to say that I didn't go anywhere near it - think I was kinda shivering in the corner or something.

Don't want o come face to face with one again

bloody hell i'm suprised it survived to the next day, bet it smelt nice though i hate spiders though and i would have just wacked it with my shoe, i dropped an old fashion iron(the big heavy ones that were heated up on a stove) on a spider years ago, it made a right mess of the carpet it was horrible, i don't usually kill spiders but it ran for me and i nearly crapped myself

Lol, so was i!! I proper shit meself seeing a blue object with 8 legs running towards me!!

I hate spiders soooo much although recently ive been letting them go about their own business, ive even got rid of one from the bath tub to the garden before i washed me hair, where usually i would have washed it down the sink! Dunno whats come over me? I do know if it was a huge one i would scream the house down though. I try not to let my daughter see my fear because i really dont want her getting a fear for them too.

Does anyone else reckon all these 'massive' wasps we're seeing this early are the 'Queens' looking to start the next colony?

I'm sad enough to have looked this up:

Quote:
A social wasp colony lasts only 1 year. Paper wasps, hornets, and yellowjackets build a new nest from scratch each year and do not reuse the previous year's nest. The only wasps to overwinter are the fertilized queens. All the workers from a colony die with the first frosts.

I had two wasps nests last year, one in the utility room ceiling, and one in the main batroom attic. The house was full of them, i had to get out some Terrminix company and they charged me £150!

I bloody hate them, and run like a spaz whenever they are near.

lol so do i, a wasp attacked me last summer, i was stood at the back door with a brew in my hand and it flew at me...my reaction was to throw my hands over my head and run into the house , good job my cup of tea wasn't too hot or i would have been in the hospital, i was covered in tea...lol...waste of a good brew

a few years ago the council would get rid of wasp nest for free but because there was a massive amount of wasps last year they started charging!!

I was going to start a new thread 'hornets & other beasties' as they are just as bad (if not worse) than wasps.

But thought I'd tag it onto this.

Elsewhere, this was being discussed...

Quote:
Hoverflies.

If you plant marigolds in the same pots as your tomatoes, or keep them with your tomato plants, it encourages the hoverflies to come along and dispose of any greenfly which might be attracted to your tomato plants.

They look nice, too.
Which prompted someone to post this piccy

Hoverflies must be strong. That ones carrying a finger. Imagine what a hornet could carry, probably a cow.

*rubs eyes*

The things people will do to be photographed...

nggggggg GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF she should be screaming

Sorry to bring this post back round again but Muvva Fcuk!

Hi All,

So sorry to bring this post back round again but Muvva Fcuk! I just have to share my pain with you.....

Today I was sat nicely having my break basking in the lovely sunshine... Minding my own business as you do...

When I felt this sharp pain on the inside of my arm... Looked down and this huge Mo Fo MuVva Truckin phat arse wasp had attached itself to the inside of my arm...

I dealt with the Ouch factor... But for the rest of the day Ive felt disabled, due to my whole arm having a bad as nasty reaction to it's sting!! Ive had to had the sting proded and poked and forcefully removed as it had gone in dead bad far.... and still now it hurts like a Biiiiiiiatch!!!

Please can somebody make me feel better by letting me know that wasps actaully have some sort of useful purpose??

Thanx for the rant!!

S-J x
