This Forum

Right I don't often post in here and after reading some of the ideas and beliefs that appear to be held by some people I'm questioning whether I should ever post on this board again full stop.

I respect that people are entitled to a point of view, but I cannot understand some of the narrow minded bigotry that is flying around at the moment.

Quite frankly some of the stuff is straight out of the 1950's - stuff you may have expected to hear if you'd belonged to the generation our grandmothers and grandfathers belonged too.

I wasn't going to get involved and I want to say a lot more believe me but it frightens me how few people have actually come out and said anything.

Can we carry on and talk about what we're all here for....music!!!?????

Nuff said.

Mart

thats what music chat is there for at least its interesting IMO, no-one is ever going to agree 100% with everyone although i think you're right in saying some attitudes are wrong /out of date or whatever
as i said in another post, if people didnt make such a big deal out of being so PC it wouldnt cause half as much of the fuss at all

whether opinions are right or wrong

it's what make forums tick, in fact it's what makes the world go round. in fact to if we all thopught the same way. uncle tone and cronies would have won. so i don't agree with some of the points but i disagree with people not being able to have opinions whether people agree with them or not.

Yes, and it is personified with statements like " I agree with you about racism however It also works both ways"

This type of comment typifies the BNP stance. Of course it works both ways, so why even say it?

It all depends whether people can discuss things without resorting to blatant racism / bigotted comments like I read on here earlier (now deleted).

This forum is widely touted as being friendly and welcoming, which Butty makes a point of - and it usually is. But if I'd signed up here for the first time today and read some of the threads as, say, a muslim, or someone of gypsy descent (as one of the people who objected to the thread was) I don't think I'd have bothered coming back.

That's not strictly true because I've seen similar threads on here before which have had to be edited after people complained about them, that was long before the person I assume you're referring to joined up

This echoes my thoughts exactly. I honestly find some of the views that have been expresed here frightening in their narrow-mindedness. I don't really expect my views to matter that much as I very rarely post in the chill-out room but judging by the tone of the posts over the last few weeks could we change the name as "chill-out" is a misnomer.

I'm not quite at the "giving up posting on the board" stage but I have to say that the chill-out room is becoming a complete waste of time for me, I preferred reading about the KoC affairs that seeing every post descend into pro-Man U/anti-Man U "banter".

My last point of this is, the description of this section is:
a place for general chit chat and natter, everybody's welcome!

Would it be fair to say that "Pikeys" are included in everybody?

I didn't say people couldn't have opinions - read my post, I said I couldn't 'understand some of the narrow minded bigotry' which quite frankly some, not all, of it was. If that makes me 'PC' or 'namby pamby' or whatever else people want to label it then so be it.

Fact is I've not been in the chillout room for ages, unless its someones birthday, so to be honest I'm glad that there some debating going on, but its disappointing in any argument when people resort to throwing stuff around without thinking or backing it up.

I'm just coming out in support of many of my friends who I know would have been downright insulted by some of the stuff that was, now thankfully, deleted. Thats all.

Sure, provided they dont come on with the apparent sole intention of either a) putting peoples backs up with personal questions
b) picking at points just for the sake of starting an arguement
c) just generally being an awkward tw@t

then yeah sure no probs

A point well put and I agree. However I don't think deleting the culprits posts solves anything in the long run.

That was my point. A couple of threads, which seems to have been deleted, would certainly not have been particularly inclusionist (is that a word?). I think we are both arguing the same point here .
