Switching banks is only a futile and short term manouvre to be honest, cos when one banks overheads based abroad is les than 1/3rd of thier rivals here, they aint gonna be competitive and aint gonna last long.

Besides, nobody is loyal enough to this country to lose out of thier own pocket are they?. If nobody baught foriegn goods, and by some miracle we actually manufactured our own things once again, if someone wanted a product like a car, and our 'in house' one was £18,000 and a similar specification foreign car was £7,000 Im afraid people will always choose the foriegn car. Simple as.

See ya

Sirius.

RBS are safe, I'm with them too.

Barclays are set to wrap naan breads around the headsets of their call centre staff by the start of 2005, as soon as they go, most of the others will follow.

What`s actually ironic is that everything moves abroad because it`s cheaper but nothing comes down in price, but i`m sure the goverment will just make up another scheme like getting more money out of motorist.

Unfortunately this is very true. I saw a programme on this recently and they are very motivated people who cost a lot less than we do. It wont stop with remote services either, skilled jobs where qualifications are required are no longer the privilege of people in this country. I know of a case where a very large firm brought over 5 Cisco CCIEs from India on temporary contracts and paid them peanuts (or is that poppadums )instead of recruiting within the UK.

Theres a global shift in working, and unfortunately we are up shit creek without any paddles and theres nothing we can do about it, not even protesting and boycotting can win this one Im afraid.

Its an economic disaster thats gonna hit us REAL hard, and I mean REAL HARD. When you can buy a new video recorder for 49.99 made in some godforsaken place abroad - think about it for that product alone - materials, labour, design, manufacturing, administration, printing, packaging, not to mention SHIPPING the bastrads accross the bloody world.....the shops make a mark up on it at 49.99, they have to do. What can you make here for 50quid? feck all. It wouldnt even cover the designers participance nevermind manufacture and everything else. When it costs 49.99 for that video, and you buy a new roof ariel, and the installation guy is on sommet daft like 40 or 50 pounds an hour - how can we EVER compete???!!!! - and ALL society is geared up around these sorts of pay rates!. The whole economy is waiting for a huge kick in the stomach and nobody seems to be able to do anything about it.

We no longer have any 'clout' globaly, we can no longer support ourselves (thanks to the tories shutting factorys and mines and other self sufieciency industries etc) so we now rely on these imports from abroad - we were no longer economically viable as pay rates to live here were costing more than the actual coal out the ground etc etc. We can not support ourselves any longer in relationship to a global market.

Moving call centers out there is only the tip of the iceberg peeps. Although we cannot understand what the bloody hell they are saying, the fact is they are not stupid over there, many know three languages and are more highly educated than we are, will work for less, and are being invested in with cutting edge technologies like no tomorrow.

The only advantages is it will stop bloody spongers arriving on our shores cos we will be the cess pit of europe, fewer muslims flocking here with a bit of luck (imo), and they fact that they wont work for peanuts forever and it will eventually 'even up' once they have made the country as affluent as we are now. Then we may be cheaper than them again. A long cycle that will last my working life out I reckon.

I know, its depressing but foreign based industries whether it be asian, korean, albania or whatever, are not going to decline. Theres nothing much we can do besides beg to be honest.

Cheerio

Sirius.
Do you not think one of the reasons for call centres and manufacturing being moved to asia etc is due to the fact that western markets/people within those markets are becoming more and consumer demanding and price driven?

think about that when you buy your baby clothes for £1.50 at asda next time. If you wanted to stop it, you wouldnt buy products from those countries.

Seeing as you are intent on dragging up old arguments in an attempt to slur me, you will find somewhere that I AGREE with you there wholeheartedly. Id love to buy goods made here and support our manufacturing and product base, please tell me where I can easily find these goods.

All I am pointing out in this debate is that this IS happening and it is something we should ALL be worried about, no matter who you are. I feel you are now reading between the lines and making issues where there wasnt intention to in previous posts, some of which I have already appoligised for and readjusted my stance upon.

Just an idea abu, perhaps it has something to with the fact that the few threads I've seen you posting in you always seem to be quoting Sirius. Why is that??

As stated before, he raises his points in a more literary fashion than some of his peers with similar beliefs.

I think its crap for our economy that they are moving the call centers out of this country, its the customer that suffers everytime.

I remember radio1 or ITV not sure which did a test on 118 118 and phoned up for Manchester United Football club, they were asked the following questions:-

Where is the company based ?
What does the company do ?

When your paying a high price for a phone service the last thing you want is to be on the phone longer than you have too and these foreign people dont have a clue about this country, I mena who doesnt know what Manchester United does ????? Even if you dont follow football, you know where they are and what they do.

I hate having to talk to people from foreign countries about problems I might be having as they simply dont understand what im talking about

I phone Sky up cause id changed phones from BT to sky cause it was cheaper billing, however I wasnt getting an Itemised bill just a statment of how much I owed. I called up spoke to an indian woman who said she would sort it she sent me out another statment no itemised bill, so I phoned again, 2 phone calls twice the cost and got another Indian, same problem she didnt understand and yet again I got just a statement and no itemised bill. 3rd time lucky, yet another phone call this time someone english, problem sorted in under 1 minute and job done.

Thats 3 phone calls which took in total about 10 - 15 minutes at a cost to me, to sort somthing that should have never been a problem in the first place and could have been sorted in under 1 minute if I'd have got someone English
