That's just a crazy question. By the same reasoning why haven't fish evolved - after all there our ancestors as well - albeit more distant ones. In that way of thinking we are the ultimate in evolution that every species will eventually become - we're not and evolution doesn't work like that. There could have quite feasibly been a race of dinosaurs who came about through evolution, like us, to have large brains and a capacity for complex communication, and they would now be the dominant species on the planet. The reason monkeys haven't evolved because they have survived without mutation, which is what evolution is all about, survival. Evolution doesn't follow the same path for all species, it's a massive tree with loads of different branches - humans being at the end of one of those branches.

Scientifically it isn't difficult to explain (certainly on a superficial level) how life came about, or why we have sex or why we die for that matter. The more fundamental questions of how existence of the universe as a whole came into being can't however - how can nothing become something!

Anyway, life has to be thought of as a self replicating molecule - that's it. In the primordial soup that was the seas of the early earth there were many complex organic molecules present due to the extreme conditions. It only takes one molecule in whatever form to have the capcity to replicate itself (hydrogren bonding to oxygen, etc) with the end result being an idenical molecule. Now this molecule will start to spread like wildfire grabbing all the available oxygens and carbons and other non-replicating molecules. Now say one of these molecules mutates slightly (instead of a hydrogen atom an hydroxide molecule bonds for example), and because of this mutation this molecule stands a better chance of replicating, then this molecule will become the dominant molecule and may even start to use the original molecule to replicate itself.

In the huge petri dish that is the entire earth, millions and millions of these mutations will take place, with the mutations getting more and more complex - some of them resulting in subsidery properties that help it survive (a cell wall for example), then these molecules become the dominant. These subsidery properties (or survival engines) are called phenotypes btw and that is what we as humans are - it's our genes which are a mutation of this original replicating molecule just blindly and without purpose trying to replicate itself. Our genes are life as such, not us we are merely a by product of their replication.

Boring but true - if you managed to make it this far!

lol - sorry.

Incidentally can I add that the human race won't evolve any further. Evolution depends on suvival of the fittest, and that is no longer happening in the case of humans, more or less everyone survives. We are doomed to stagnate as a species.

Your quite right there!! We are definaltley doomed as a species! If we dont kill ourselves off, im sure we'll kill our planet off first!! With the O-zone etc...and the consent threat off a nuclear war, there are many ways for us to end our lifes!!

Just to change the subject slighty......
Nostradamus predicted the world would end in July 1999, by a Great King of Terror coming from the sky! Obvioulsy the world as we know it did not end, however on that very same month this happened......

In July of 1999 in the northeastern part of the USA hundreds of birds began dying and falling out of the sky.
The cause was a disease from the Middle East (where many great kings of terror reign).
It had never before been seen in this country. Soon people began getting sick and dying as well.

Is that just a coincidence??? Many of his prophecies have come true! Its quite worrying really!! Was July of 1999 just the beginning? Will the West Nile Virus turn out to be the prophecy of Nostradamos?
Mars is closer to earth this year than in 60,000 years and the West Nile Virus is well on it's way to becoming an epidemic.
Coincidence or not?

However, he did predict Earth would cease to exsist in the year 3937!!

Just had to add that!

Have to say that although this was the exepted therory of late, recent genetic evidence suggests the contrary (but i didnt pay enough attention to comment/quote)

I think phrohecy's are aload of bollox, give me fact and theory any day!

But i guess its what ever floats your boat really.

Edited to say that is probs as i am a science buff and find it hard to work without evedence based practice- have the buggar drilled in to me every day.

But i am open to others thoughts and feelings- just without fact i always feel its a mere inference which is dodgy ground

Are you saying you think Nostradamus's prophecies are a load of bollox??? Coz the ones that have been and gone are fact! There is proof that his prophecies have come true! What about his one about Hister???????

Beasts ferocious with hunger will cross the rivers,
The greater part of the battlefield will be against Hister.
Into a cage of iron will the great one be drawn,
When the child of Germany observes nothing.

This is what that supposedly means:
One of Nostradamus’ most remarkable series of quatrains, with the name Hitler given in anagram as Hister. There can be little doubt that Hitler is implied; who else could be so well described by the last line, the German who observed no law? In 16th-Century handwriting the resemblance is even closer with the use of the long s, Hifter. Commentators before 1930 understood the Hister to be the river Danube, from its latin name Ister. But Hitler recognized himself in these quatrains by the mid 1930s and Goebbells made great propaganda out of them in the pre-war party years. Evidence of this is found in many sources, chiefly Ellic Howe’s book ‘Nostradamus and the Nazis’. During the first year of the Second World War the development of the war was to a great extent dependent upon the rivers crossed by the Germans who came into Europe in a never-ending stream looting and pillaging!!

The guy got many of his prophecies right and he lived in the 15th Century!!! I find that trully amazing!

Okay, all this theory of evolution and everything is quite confusing but here's how I see its possible that we exist.

The theory of evoltuion explains that every creature evolves to survive. Wether they create better natural defences or better camouflage, etc. thats what evolves over thousands of years.

So, why if we eloved from apes do they still exist in their primative form? I think Sweet kicked off my theory. Here goes:

An intelligent race from another world decided to create an experiment. This was to mix their DNA with the DNA of an ape. Therefore, creating humans. Sounds far fetched but it makes sense.

Anyone who has seen the film Signs will be with me on this one.
Aliens are intelligent, apes are dumb, mix them together and you get an ittelligent race with advanced learning capabilities. They have a masive resemblance to apes except they're less hairer & less agile. Well, aliens in films such as Signs are depicted as smooth skin creatures that aren't very strong. I'd say humans are in between the differences between alien and ape.

Scientists will tell you that 98% of human DNA is exactly the same as chimps and 2% they put down to evolution or mutation thats happened over thousands of years. I'd say human intelligence has evolved over the years but our biological form hasn't. Apparently, according to Richard Attenborough humans have only been walking the earth for 10'000 years.

As far as race goes put it this way: 2% DNA mixed with a chimp gives you White people, mix with Gorilla and you get Black people, mix with Orangutan and you get Indian or Aborigine.
Sounds about right to me.

But then again, I have a warped mind and don't take offence or me too seriously.

Phew!

Well i guess if you can prove that this was indeed a phrophecy from the 15th cent, ( alarm bells ring that it is not the language of that era- and if it has been altered to fit with current english, then how do we now that was the said phrophecy)

But as i said, my scientific roots always stop me from having a total open mind on these matters.

And its all a little septic peg to me j/k

LOL! Thats what i said in an earlier post! It does sound far fetched but, if you think back even 100 hundred years ago, electricity sounded far fetched!! Anything is possible in a world that we do not understand and know about!

OK then, did a snail begin life as a slug!! And then one day while viciously thrown down on its box, the slug wrote and declared 'Let there be a house on mi back' and a snail was born!! Stands to reason!!

I have the exact prophecy in my book somewhere! The book has the exact ones then on another page gives the up to date interpretation of it. Goodness knows where the book is mind! Probably lost in one of my spare b.rooms! And its a jungle in there!!
