Freedom of speech on OSA.

I feel a dangerous precedent has been set by the moderators, relating to the suppression of posts regarding new music and / or new mixes. Freedom of speech is one of the most fundamental rights that individuals enjoy. It is fundamental to the existence of democracy and the respect of human dignity.

With any right comes responsibility. On OSA this should be to show respect to fellow members and no personal abuse.

As an “Old Skool” discussion forum, obviously the majority of talk will center on old skool music. At times, however, topics will wander; threads will go off at a tangent, and eventually we will talk about anything. This is how it should be.

I think it is time that all OSA members are allowed a serious debate concerning this matter.

I have no vested interest in new music. I do believe though, that we should be able to discuss anything with each other, as has always been the case in the past.

During the debate an anonymous vote could be used to poll the members, as to their view. Bearing in mind the previously mentioned responsibility, do members believe that any subject be open for discussion between ourselves.

The issue wasn't one of freedom of speech if you'll recall. It's one of the serious trouble which was caused when anyone dared to question the validity of new music or new remixes. Which basically stemmed from a problem of some people's egos. And since this is an old skool board it seemed to be more bother than it was worth to have the issue on here at all. End of story. That's the way I saw it anyway.

Incidentally one thing I will say is there's someone on this board who has had really big hits but decides to keep it quiet. One of the tunes is that big it would totally shock you, but they have decided to keep it to him/herself - people like this really do deserve respect in that they'd rather be judged as they are.

but the trouble is the topics wander into ego tripping, personal abuse and posts posted for the sole purpose of antagonising people. Not every thread is gonna be about old skool that for sure. If it doesn't offend and isn't childish and petty or provacative then freedom of speech is fine. This forum has been more like the post days of the summer of love when the gangland warfare started than what it should be like.

spiely mate it got to the point where every other thread just flared up and ended up getting closed. and it all came to down to it being about new music. it got to the point where members couldnt be arsed to come on here because the place was just turning into 'all the other forums out there' and so with it being a forum about old skool music then i decided to go back to what we are originallt about.

its not a case of what i wanted to do i dont want to restrict what people waffle about it was a case of what i had to do. and ever since i did that then the forum has been chilled happy and the ratio of new members has gone up again.

you didnt have to take that post down at all .. it was a valid thread that was tellin ppl of a CLASSIC tune being repressed .. yeah the fact its beign remxed was mentioned as its gonna be on the same vinyl .. but that wasnt the point of the thread .. god sake it was offering 50 free copys of it out .. i know for a fact that given the chance that thread would have made a lot of ppl very happy .. COS THEYD HAVE GOT A FREE COPY OF THIS CLASSIC TUNE THATS SOO GOD DAM HARD TO GET NOW !! the thread would not have got out of hand .. the gun was just jumped on this one .. with the NEW rules ... we could have left out the fact it was getin remixed but along the way someowere it would have come up .. say if some one wanted to know what else would be on this repress .. what were we to say .. err sorry we arent allowed to say LOL come on man get a grip ..so there fore with these new rules its still stoppin us from talkin bout an old tune and informin ppl of the news on it which so many ppl on ere love .. sad ..

if it was an intentional kick off thread etc .. it owuld have been titled .

all feels a bit regimental with all the new rules about wot we can and cant talk about

there was a thread about dido's new album the other week there and yet that wasnt deleted, and i wanted to put one up about the thrills (coz its absolutely friggin excellent!) but knew there'd be no point..
surely if we hav a vote it is more democratic...

and surely we can all respect one another enuf to not sling any sh*t..

Then when you want to chat about old skool - get your arse on here, where the vibe is friendly, open and ego-free - which is why people love it!

This board's not regimented it just tries to avoid having peoples ego's involved. Say for example Dido herself came on here and said "I'VE DONE A NEW TUNE WITH NEW REMIXES". Then someone said "not too keen on that track dido", then she got some usual suspects to post stuff like "you're just jealous" - it would sort of get in the way of a friendly vibe. Don't ya think - lol.

it wasnt a case of egos in this post MATE .. yeah the last few posts all got out of hand and got very silly .. but do you not think lessons have been learned from it all .. it was an innocent post and generous one .. like i aid not every day 50 vinlys get given away .. just spoilin it for every one else imo

and it werent a post bout a new tune it just so happens that it has a new remix on the a side of it .. .. so with these NEW RULES its stoppin us talk bout a highyl respected classic ( in many ppls eyes on this board ) that is gettin repressed ..

thats the thing tho minxy people couldnt respect each other enough and the shit did get slung and so thats why i changed things around.

do a vote and see what the majority want im happy to do that. the thing is you guys dont see half of the problems hassle and general uncooperativeness (is that a word lol) that me and the mods have to deal with.

people trust me to do whats right for the majority of members on here. its a big forum now im never going to please everyone.

errr sos FELLA can you not read it .. he dont need to mention any thread in particcular .. as he mentions NEW MUSIC which is really the only thing were not allowed to talk about on this board so it has every thing to do with it .. at a guess hes obvioulsly seen the various threads today about the certain thread being deleted .. and bringin up a thread titled freedom of speech .. so in my book thats linked in with what im on about .. so i correct you on that one ..

Don'tcha think the board has been a much happier place since the new rules came in though - you can literally feel love permeating through the threads now - and membership has been rising accordingly

ben i dont think the post in question had anything about vinyl giveaway in the first post of the thread. if it did and i had seen it i have i would have let it go.

i seen a big long post which what seemed to be about a new tune. well that was the bit that was in capitals n e ways. so it got deleted.

i aint a robot and i do get things wrong from time to time i aint gonna go deleting a post offering free tunes away on purpose.

geees the the reply bout the vinly giveaway came about 4 mins agfter i put that up aand it werent it caps mate .. i know i put ( ME !!!) in caps unlike ya were u think .. and it werent a long post either .. and didnt even start by mentionin the remix .. u could have just deleted the caps bit .. like i said b4 too quick at times to jump on us certain new music BAD BOYS who seemed to be marked ever since the kick offs that happened b4 ...
