| Shutting down MSN chatrooms is actually good for pedo's... this means that the kids will move to more unregulated chatrooms on obscure IRC servers and the pedo's will follow. MSN had the resources and the ability to police this and decided not to. In my humble opinion, this is a victory for pedo's

| ep... Fug... you're right. there is a ot of hyp around things like that, but I still honestly beleive that parents and that shoud be at the core of the blame. They do not find a way of teaching the children, of actually showiong them the results, then it will never be stopped! The laws are currently being re-written so that sex offenders actually get a lot harder sentence. At the moment you will go down for long if you rob a bank, or something, but soon that will be turned around ![]()

| I hate to throw the emphasis on the parents but I think are the ones who need to police this. Its a pity that kids tend to be more techno-savvy than the parents. My son/daughter/it is going to have a nightmare trying to access anything useful on the Internet *evil grin* ![]()

| i think the point made about parents doing more monitering has got to be the most important thing. i also think that kids shouldn't have a pc in their own bedroom, well at least one with no internet access...that way parents can keep a better look at wots goin on. i agree too that parents need to be more educated on how to keep a good check on wot their kids r looking at, how the hell can they be expected to see these things wen most of them can't even switch on a computer jayne x |

| I have to agree with you Fug, I think Microsoft have the ability and resources to effectively monitor and police their own chatroom envoirment. I also think it's a bit of a cop out on their part too, instead of helping to monitor and control chatrooms they're shutting them down. What ever next?, the internet contains some dodgy sites so lets shut it down?... cars and cycles are dangerous so we should all go back to walking?... I also think that parents could play a more active role in their childs computer use. Most parents are aware of the dangers but don't recognise them. I had this conversation with a collague a few days ago and she was of the opinion that her son was up in his room, playing on his computer, so what harm can come to him?... <unbeknown to her that little jonny was talking to a girl in the next town planning to meet up on Saturday to go to the cinema.....just hope it was a girl...> Surely Microsoft could introduce some sort of increased registration (e.g. postal address) for each user which can then be verified and chatroom access granted, or is that too simple?... I for one would love to work for the police or company assisting in the trapping and capture of peado's. Phil |
