Summer Solstice celebration, Stonehenge, Wiltshire 20.6.08

Not sure if anyone is interested but thought id do a write up anyhow.

Left home just after 8 and hammered down the fosseway to Cirencester. Got to within 2 miles of Stonehenge around 11 after a detour via Bath. Parked up for a power nap as id only had 4 hours kip in the last 24 hours. Got onto the site about 12:45am, parked the car and went for a wander. The car park (field) was massive with lots of impromptu parties even though English Heritage had specified no amplified music allowed. Lots of nice little systems belting out lots of bass - heard Strings of Life from one. It was a soggy night so i followed the throng the mile walk to the stones themselves.Lots of Old Bill and stewards but generally there werent any problems. The Police presence was fairly low key. Joined the masses at the stones and met up with an internet buddie who im surprised i found as we had never met before. The bbc estimated there were 30,000 in attendence. The majority were intent on partying and the atmosphere was ..'jovial' to say the least. Managed to get myself right into the central area but with that many bodies around i didnt stay long. Plenty of bongo action and the obligatory Hare Krishna's kept things entertaining through the night. Met another mate there and hung around until the sky started to lighten.. unfortunately the mist, rain and drizzle kinda obscured the actual sunrise (04.42) but just being among a huge crowd of people all with the same reason for being there was good enough. I left the stones just after 5 and left the site sometime after 6. Finally got home at 10:30 after another power nap just outside Oxford. Would probably go again and i would recommend going to anyone who considered it, just dont expect holier than thou behaviour..

Yeah TC, it was my first time there but to be honest there were that many people you couldnt work out where you actually were, if you get me? It was a bit soggy but it never really hammered it down, it was more like a fine mist/drizzle all night. By the looks of some of the casualties (especially the guy layed spread eagled in the mud - eyes open, happy as larry) it still looks like the hippies have all the best drugs (generalising i know).
