Help with wireless net required

Got a new laptop for my Mrs to use while i'm hoggin the PC.lol

its an Acer 5630 and it has built in wireless, bought a wireless router and have set that up, i have my pc running directly with an Ethernet cable from the router and this works fine, when i plug the laptop into the router with another Ethernet cable, this works fine, but when i try and connect to the net via wireless it won't connect !!!!

The laptop searches for all avilable signals and picks these up no problem, it has my own at the top with about 99% signal strength, then other peoples in my street below that.

When i try to connect to my signal i get the diagnostic report saying something about checking the settings in my laptop ????????

The laptop uses windows vista, and i aint got a clue what settings i'm looking for or where i'm looking, any ideas anyone ????

cheers,
Robbie

not saying this is the same probs your having but might be worth a shot??

also another thing....what router have ya got??? i know some people are having trouble with certain routers??

i know pc world have a helpline ya can ring and they can try n sort it for ya....but not got the number sorry

cheers folks, think i'm gonna have to have someone out to sort it, was about 30 seconds away from smashing the fucking thing up today, was on with it for 5 hours and couldn't sort it

it's bound to be summat daft like you say, the lappy will need the wireless switching on or setting to match the router or summat, just can't find how to do it

Cheers
Robbie

some routers need you to switch them into pairing mode when you first try to connect with your PC

i got a new ACER lappy for the missus and could not get it to connect until i pressed the pairing button on the router and it worked first time after that

you only need to do this once

the switch on the front of the lappy is for manually switching the wireless on and off and should normally be set to on as a default
