PC Keep Rebooting

My pc has today decided that it will reboot whilst I'm in the middle of doing something.
Doesnt seem to be doing it when it's left sitting unattended, just whilst I'm browsing, typing, listening to music, burning a dvd/cd.
It gives no warning, screen goes black, reboots, no errors or any messages whilst rebooting or once its rebooted

Anybody had this happen beforeo or have any ideas why the fook it's doing it coz it's really starting to piss me off ???

Thanks in advance

I had it all the time when I had Windows 98, Charlie

Might be a memory problem, hardware incompatibilty probem, or a virus! Might possibly be other things too, but those are likely causes.

Have you installed any hardware into your pc recently, or software even. Surprising how something so seemingly insignificant can cause so much hassle

if its doing it while ya doing stuff ya will prolly find as jiglo said it could be memory. another thing to check is the cpu fan as it could be overheating. when your hitting the processor loads it heats up, and if the fan cant cope or it gets too hot pc's way of dealing with things is to take the easy way out n reboot

take the side off and feel the top o the heatsink and if its hot enough to cook ya eggs on when it reboots get it replaced

re-booting

Alright Charlie, i got this problem a couple of months ago after i installed a newer copy of Nero ( got from a torrent site), it ended up that i had downloaded a virus with the nero torrent. I had to uninstall the new nero and run a virus scan and then find a new clean version of nero. took me ages to work it out and countless cd's and dvd's

Cheers for the replies peeps

I have a feeling that it's over heating and thats why it's doing what it's doing

For weeks now the fan has been going ballistic and when I was sitting mulling this over I realised that I've not heard the fan now for the last few days so I've got a feeling it's died on me.

ATHYjohn, you've got me worried now mate. I installed a copied version of Nero just last week. It didn't work so I uninstalled it and got rid.
At the minute though I've got no virus software on here so I can't check to see if I'm infected

nero

sorry for worrying you Charlie mate, it wasnt Nero Premium Reloaded v7.7.5.1 from torrentspy was it. Thats the one i had all of the trouble with. You can go to the nero homepage and get a cleaning tool that will clean all of the nero applications from your pc then install your old version again if it is.

EDIT just found this on here try it its a lifesaver

Download Nero Clean Tool Bundle 1.0 - The Driver-CleanTool will deactivate drivers that caused problems in Nero in the past - Softpedia

EDIT AGAIN Charlie pm me and ill send you a clean version of nero 7

Keep an eye on your vents in case they clog up with dust. I had this problem and it was sorted with a quick vacuum of the vents. Also make sure you've a bit of space around about your base unit.
There's free anti-virus programs available like AVG or Avast. Try heading to a site like MajorGeeks. Also theres online antivirus checkups like pandas activescan Free online antivirus. ActiveScan. Panda Software or Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan

Also if yer running xp, this could also be the work of a dodgy device driver - sometimes windows updates takes it on its self to update the drivers with out yer warning and can cause havoc had it before with graphics cards
