RAQ 4Servers ?

Anyone had any dealings with a RAQ4 Server ?

I am looking to upgrade my free webspace/websites to a dedicated RAQ4 Server, but am unsure about how it works.

I am also looking at a Web Re-seller package (hosts unlimited websites).

Not sure which will be the best option.

any Ideas ?

It basically a PC, probably running linux and apache. Its just a thin rack mounted PC that is optimised for web use.

Cheers mate, but i already understand that bit, its whether its more suited to my needs - to run many websites with a possible high bandwidth.

whether it's the better long term option or go with from the start ?

Will they run webs as a normal web server would ?

Are they a better option than maybe a re-seller's package (to host many websites) ?

any help greatly appreciated

hmm.. its a tricky question. Bandwidth isn't really an issue with the RAQ4, its more an issue with the connection you have with the Internet and as with most PC's, it also depends on diskspace, memory, cpu, etc...

A reseller would probably run a RAQ4 anyway. They are handy because you can stick loads of them in a single rack. My mate used a reseller running a raq4 with RedHat Linux and Apache. You can run multiple instances of web servers/sites on them without a problem.

I guess it depends on how many web sites you want. I reckon you could run at least 28 sites on a web server (using virtual hosting) with little impact. If I was going to run a site like yahoo or amazon then I would be looking at a dedicated high end box.

Depends on what you can afford and what performance you require. You could always splash out £3 million on an IBM z900 and you could run about 900,000 web servers without the server even blinking.
