| OK, I may need to go to a technical forum for this but one of you guys may know.... I need to make a cd-rom based presentation that will auto-run on any pc when the user inserts the cd. I've made the presentation in flash and imported it into director and it works perfectly but I don't know how to make the CD rom itself. Macromedia cops out of explaining it by saying that it needs to be done using other software but doesn't explain any further. I know its possible as most PC magazine cover disks run a director based interface so I know its possible. Anyone know how to do it?

| Does director save an executable file, or does it save a small file that runs your presentation. You will probably need to create an autorun.inf that will automatically run your proggy/presentation when inserted in CD etc. Which proggy do you use to burn your CD's etc ?

| Nah macromedia doesn't create an executable - it does publish to a browser independant format, a .dir but when you try to run that it errors. I use nero to burn CDs but theyr'e just standard data cd's that I'll be creating. I'm trying to reverse-engineer a director based cover disk cd but from what I can see the autorun part has been compiled and I know cock all about C++ and all that guff which is probably what it was written in. It's such a common use for director that there must be a site out there explaining it somewhere plus I've only had the software 2 days so I'm still trying to get my head around it. I'll keep trying! ![]()

| Ooops - my mistake the autorun is just this: [autorun] open=CAiwin32.exe and runs a program called CAiwin32.exe in the same directory. There are also a series of .dir (director) files in that directory and file just called cai which I have to assume is part of CAIwin32.exe Now I just have to figure out how to get it to open the appropriate .dir file!

| Damn - the cai file and caiwin32.exe are obviously created knowing all the component .dir files it will use as when I moved it to another directory and ran it it asked where all the .dir components were. It's also a compiled program so it is obviously created specifically for the purpose of running these cds. Unfortunatley a search on google and yahoo has turned up absolutely no trace of its origin and neither does the director help have any mention of it. Anyone any ideas where it might come from?

Cracked it!!!!! Director can create a projector file so I get the flash movie to run in a 2 frame loop, include all the component swf's and created a projector exe. Then I just stick em all on a cd with an autorun.inf and bob's your uncle (or Dad in my case) it bloody works with all the interactivity I built into the flash movie working a treat. It'll even handle loading and unloading of sub movies!! Happy bunny Tigger!!! ![]() Feel free to delete this thread!
