It was on 17th and 3rd so very handy location in mid town. And very cheap for NYC. Woody Allen filmed in the hotel for Murder in Manhatten.
Very basic with shared bathrooms (never was a problem). They have a sister hotel also which is nearer Madison. It may be hotel 31 from memory.

hey Radish, I stayed at both of these hotels 17 and 31 ( could be 32 not sure )
not brilliant to be honest but cheap and cheerfull
the one on 17th is very good location as union sq is ace, prob slightly better hotel as well
however I would stay at them both again though as so cheap and you dont really spend any time in your hotel when in NYC
whatever you do stay away from Hotel pennslyvannia next to madison sq, I booked this and the actual bookin agents phoned me advising me to cancel it as they had so many complaints about it being infested with rats and cockroaches !!! offered me the holiday inn 54th st for cheaper and better
