can you boot into safe mode

To try this press F8 a lot of times while the PC boots up. This should then give you a windows menu of boot options - choose safe mode.

Sometimes it will boot into safe mode as the corrupted files and drivers don't get loaded. Then you can try to restore the PC to an earlier time. This will then allow you to copy files onto another disk or something. If system restore works then just run a virus scan when it boots up if it gets past your login screen.

to get to system restore goto:
start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore

If none of this works - it might be an idea to stick a new hard disk in and install windows XP on it then use your original disk with all your files on as just a storage disk- you should be able to access them no problems.
