Cubase help req'd

I need some help with this......

Im trying to find an old tune out and re-edit it in cubase.....now, (until I find the parts on old cd's) I wanted to see how I would do it in the program, so Ive tried some test samples out.

Something wierd is going on.....

I have an audio file at 135bpm which Ive played, and it plays back at 135bpm when I open it in media player. I have a midi track I played (which was used to make the audio sound track), at obviously the same speed of 135bpm.

I start a new Cubase SX3 file and import the midi file beacuse I wanna add some VST instruments alongside existing audio - to 'double up' and beef the existing sound.

However, when I import the audio track, its slowing it down by approximately 10bpm and changing the pitch accordingly , therefore my VST line will be playing at 135bpm and the (long) audio clip is playing at 125bpm approx, and ofcourse the timing is allover the place, they kick off at different times from the 1.1.1.0 position.

Ive tried the same loading in Cakewalk Sonar, and the things line up and match up, and Ive tried in in Ableton Live 5 but every time I load a VSTi it crashes. I dont wanna use Sonar, I wanna use Cubase.

This is really pecking my head! I cant explain how its automatically slowing audio down by 10bpm!!!!!! The same file in my windows media player is fine!, the Cubase tempo is set properly, so I dont get whats going on . It does it everytime, and Ive tried other midi files and audio clips.

Anybody any ideas?

Cheers

Sirius
