| I had similar problems with A linksys wireless router I had , outside of the room the router was in the signal was poor .
Binned that and accepted a free one off BT (Voyager 2091) and it's nothing less that fantastic. I can use the laptop on any of the 3 floors in the house and in the garden with a full strength signal. No messing and no tweaking that was straight out of the box.
Have you looked in the router configuration, in there you should be able to change the channel setting and increase the signal strength .
