What A Night!

Excerpt from an email, from a very old & dear friend, a friend whom like so may others over the years had drifted away, though who due to the last reunion night, is now, I’m happy to say, back in my life again. I think these words help sum up pretty well what the nights have meant to many of us.

(mail prior to the reunion)
“I was there at the beginning when everything was new - there is not a lot new for me now - the highs are not as high, the people are generally not as nice - I WAS in Ibiza & Blackburn in 1988.
It probably won’t mean much to people who weren't there, but, to me, and the 1250 people week-in week-out that went to Legends, it was more than a religion........ I finished with my fiancé and lost a very good job through it.
How do you look at that as being a positive I hear you ask? Well I tell you, I got FAR MORE from Legends and the people who went there than from all of my previous life.
They helped to shape the way I am today, to look at life as an adventure and NOT a chore…
The death of dance started as soon as it began.
Nothing has an end unless it's already begun.
I was one of the lucky ones to be able to witness 1st hand what it was all about - & it was all about Legends!
I grant you the fact that "What you never had you never miss". Unfortunately, I had it, and yes I DO miss it.
I hope to rekindle my affection for the dance music scene, but as with everything it all depends on the people - I have a strong feeling that this may install that belief again…
I hope so”.

(mail after the reunion)
What a stormer of a night!!!!!!
So many faces smiling and welcoming embraces.
It's a pity it takes a tragedy - Mike’s deportation – to get things like this to work. (Ed. I think my mate meant ‘departation’ – but knowing Mike I may be wrong, it may indeed be ‘deportation’ – only kiddin’ mate…)
I don't think I saw a single person who wasn't free to give a smile away, as well as other things!!!!
Was able to get a couple of phone numbers etc which I’m thankful for (didn't get as many as I wanted, but what the hell).
I think if we knew there was gonna be another one then we could have taken it all in.
6-7 hours passed like nobody’s business and then it was back to reality - reality which for most of us is far more mundane than it was before, but for that short time we WERE the people who we remember having being…
This surely can't be the end!!!!”

Simple words – but heartfelt.

Mike – your being too hard on ya self – “it is for me impossible to recreate a fraction of the atmosphere of Legends as they were very different times and it is just so difficult for me to play those records all night and enjoy it”. It’s the same for us mate – it’s impossible to go out anywhere & experience the atmosphere of Legends! Yes, they were indeed VERY DIFFERENT TIMES – but just to have the chance to go out & meet with so many old friends, in such a relaxed (but equally potty) place, rammed with mad folk, old & new, lovin’ every minute of it (it’s easy to see from the other side!!!), & listen & dance to some of the music that was, & still is for many, the soundtrack to our lives – from the best & most formative years we ever had – that is enough. All expectations were met, no, exceeded… It’s that simple. What you & Nog have achieved with the last 2 nights is a truly rare thing these days, as many folk on here have stood testament too – everyone fuckin’ loved it – AGAIN! I for one salute ya both for your efforts – good work fellas.

(I feel like shit today though – needed me Zimmer to even get to the kitchen to make a brew this morn…)
