As a guitar player (sort of hahah - school rock band "soundvave") i reckon guitars do go well if theres some sort of soul in the tune or if its not overly hard on the ears... that hardcore chap "Ecstatic" on Production House who did that "one day we'll all be free" sample over the quadrophenia beats - he used a sly guitar chord sample in the tune and it sounds more like a synth noise to me? if used cleverly, guitars can make the whole tune.
was playing a few chords on an achoustic guitar over hip-hop beats 90BPM -- interesting with a bit of scratching etc (Nice one Tim Acid

). Have you noticed how many commercial pop tunes are now borrowing techniques used in the older produced underground scene, ie the "funky filtered riff" style and like brixtim says the blatant guitar samples/filters. BTW Anyone hear that track which samples Cyberton - Clear (Juan Atkins 1983)?
