| I'd say 91-93
in 90 someone @ school gave me tape from wear FM ( sunderland ) with all
this bleep , poing , thump music. I'd always been into mad electronic music
and psychdelic rock. This seemed the next best thing.
Dipped my toe in the water with a shamen 12" , next thing you know tracks
like mentasm, dominator, activ-8 and Close your eyes are the only things I listen to.
went to bham uni ,joined the "dance music society" which held raves in the
SU. Now had pirates broadcasting all the latest hardcore. 100% hooked.
By late 92 early 93 rave had started to go dark and hard. Most of the places
I went like Crunch in Bham moved effortlessly into handbag/piano
house.
I don't think there will ever be that excitement around dance again, it
wasn't mainstream music at the time. If you were into it you were one
of the "in crowd". It was your music depised by adults and your peers
with their neds atomic dustbin / james / wonderstuff t-shirts. |
