I had similar thoughts ages ago when I wanted some sounds in my kitchen, but I had an old Radio/Cass/CD player, which was quite good, it's years old and I'd been using that until early this year when it packed up, nothing could coax it back to life

So, my kitchen was quiet for a few weeks which I have to say was a nightmare, I like sounds, all the time if possible, not loud, but there has to be background music of some description. I'm one of those people who has to have music on low before I can get to sleep, and it's nice to hear if you happen to wake up throughout the night/day (I work nights) instead of that deadly silence, also I find if there's music on, my mind doesn't tend to go into overdrive mode, thinking whilst trying to get to sleep is a nightmare..

Anyway, back to the point, I upgraded my edit suite (I have 2 studios) and used to rely on an Aiwa midi hi-fi for monitoring - which has CD/Cass/Radio/Minidisc all built in, and I just shoved that in the kitchen, which was a relief as there's nothing worse than a quiet kitchen, I'm sure even Ainsley Harriot would agree there

Why not see if you've an old midi hi-fi knocking around, you might have chucked one in the attic when you bought newer gear etc?

I must learn to start throwing things away, or at least selling them, as I hoard far too much!
